Group Therapy

Where collective healing meets real conversation.

Group therapy at Ominira is not centered on forced disclosure or storytelling for its own sake. It is a structured space for learning, reflection, and connection alongside others who are engaging in similar work. We approach group therapy with the understanding that many patterns are shaped in relationship, and that healing and regulation are often strengthened in the presence of others.

Groups are facilitated with clear boundaries, pacing, and purpose. Participation is encouraged, not required, and individuals are supported in engaging at a level that feels appropriate and sustainable. Rather than pressure to share, the emphasis is on skill building, shared understanding, and practical tools that can be applied outside the group setting.

Group therapy at Ominira balances discussion, reflection, and concrete strategies for daily life. Over time, this format helps normalize experience, reduce isolation, and support steadier ways of relating to self and others.

Sometimes the challenge isn’t knowing what might help, but being able to apply it when it matters. This DBT and MBCT skills group is designed for individuals who want support turning insight into practice and building consistency over time.

The group integrates DBT skills, mindfulness based cognitive therapy practices, and psychoeducation as practical tools for daily life. Rather than treating skills as worksheets or concepts to memorize, we approach them as ways of relating differently to thoughts, emotions, and bodily responses. The focus is on slowing down, understanding patterns, and creating space between impulse and response.

Within the group, we work through core DBT skill areas while drawing on MBCT to strengthen awareness and presence:

  • Mindfulness: Developing the capacity to notice thoughts, emotions, and sensations without immediately reacting to them.
  • Distress tolerance: Building the ability to stay grounded during moments of discomfort or overwhelm without abandoning yourself or escalating the situation.
  • Emotion regulation: Learning how to recognize emotional patterns and respond in ways that support steadiness rather than exhaustion.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness: Practicing how to communicate needs, set boundaries, and maintain connection without self-erasure.

Throughout the group, we may explore themes such as following through when consistency has been difficult, navigating the tension between protection and openness, noticing the space between intention and action, rebuilding trust in internal signals, and translating awareness into choices that are sustainable.

This group emphasizes practice over performance. Skills are learned, revisited, and applied in community, with support for moving at a pace that is realistic and humane.

This psychoeducation group is designed to support understanding, skill development, and practical insight into common emotional, behavioral, and nervous system patterns. The focus is on learning rather than sharing personal history, with an emphasis on clarity, structure, and real-life application.

Psychoeducation groups provide information about how stress, emotion, thought patterns, and learned responses develop over time, and how they can influence daily functioning. Participants are introduced to evidence-based concepts in an accessible way, with space to reflect, ask questions, and connect material to their own experiences as they choose.

Content may include understanding stress and nervous system responses, recognizing common behavioral and emotional patterns, learning why certain reactions repeat, and exploring practical strategies for regulation, awareness, and choice. The group emphasizes education and skills rather than emotional processing or disclosure.

Participation is flexible and guided. Individuals are encouraged to engage at a level that feels appropriate, with no expectation to share personal details. The group is facilitated to maintain clear boundaries, pacing, and focus on learning.

This group is well suited for those who want a clearer understanding of their internal experiences and practical tools they can apply outside of sessions, either on its own or alongside individual therapy.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

If any of this feels aligned, you’re welcome to reach out. We’re happy to share more about upcoming groups or offer a brief consultation to help determine whether this format is a good fit.

How To Get Started

Step One: Phone Consultation

A phone consultation is a brief conversation designed to help you learn more about Ominira and ask any initial questions you may have. It is not therapy and does not involve assessment or treatment. This conversation helps determine next steps and whether moving forward feels like a good fit.

Phone consultations are required for all services.

Step Two: Insurance Verification and Intake Forms

After the phone consultation, clients receive intake forms and, when applicable, insurance verification documents by email. Intake materials vary depending on whether services are individual, couples, or group based.

Insurance verification applies to individual and couples therapy. Group therapy is offered as a self-pay service.

Step three: First Session

For individual therapy, the first session includes an intake interview where your provider reviews relevant history, discusses current concerns, and begins collaboratively identifying goals for care.

For couples therapy, each partner completes an individual intake session before ongoing couples sessions begin. For group offerings, the first session is the initial group meeting.
