Frequently Asked Questions

The first therapy session provides an opportunity to establish a connection in a welcoming and supportive space. While not overly formal, this session serves as the foundation for the therapeutic process. During this time, a biopsychosocial assessment is conducted to gain an understanding of background, current challenges, strengths, and goals. Participants are encouraged to share at their own comfort level, with no pressure to provide more detail than they feel ready to share.

We’ll also begin the collaborative process of treatment planning, where we’ll discuss what you’d like to work on and set initial goals for therapy. This is a two-way conversation, and your input is essential to tailoring our approach to fit your unique needs.

Ultimately, the first session is about creating a safe space for you to feel heard and supported while laying the groundwork for meaningful growth and healing.

Therapy can be a valuable resource for anyone seeking support, clarity, or growth in their life. It’s not just for moments of crisis—it’s also for those who want to better understand themselves, work through challenges, or build skills for navigating life’s ups and downs. If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply curious about exploring your emotions and experiences, therapy could be a great step.

The process is deeply personal and collaborative, and the focus is always on your unique needs and goals. Therapy doesn’t come with a one-size-fits-all approach, and there’s no right or wrong reason to begin. Whether you’re managing stress, addressing past traumas, navigating relationships, or striving for personal growth, therapy offers a supportive space to explore and create change at your own pace.

If you’re unsure, starting with a free phone consultation can help you decide if therapy is the right fit for you. It’s a chance to ask questions, share your concerns, and see how working together might feel. Therapy is for anyone ready to take the first step toward deeper self-understanding and a more fulfilling life.

At Ominira Therapy, individual sessions are 45–50 minutes and cost anywhere from $200 per session, reflecting a commitment to providing high-quality, trauma-focused care. A limited number of sliding scale spots are available to increase accessibility, and more information about that can be found in the question below.

Ominira Therapy operates as a private pay practice, meaning insurance is not accepted. This allows the focus to remain on personalized care without the restrictions of insurance requirements. Payment is due at the time of service, and a Good Faith Estimate is available to support clients in planning for their care.

If you have questions about costs or would like to explore whether therapy here is the right fit for you, you are welcome to schedule a brief phone consultation.

Yes. At Ominira Therapy, a sliding scale is offered to make therapy more accessible. The standard rate is $200 per session, but clients may select a lower rate between $100–$200 based on their current financial situation.

There is no proof required, and you will not be asked to justify your choice.

For clients who come through the Open Path Collective, sessions are automatically set at $70. The same applies for those utilizing vouchers from the Loveland Foundation.

No. Ominira Therapy operates exclusively as a telehealth practice, with all sessions conducted online through the secure Sessions Health EHR platform.

This decision reflects our trauma-focused philosophy: therapy of this nature is most effective when clients are grounded in their safest spaces. For many, that space is their own home, where the body can relax more fully and where insights can be integrated into daily life. Telehealth allows us to meet clients where they are, literally and figuratively, offering care in a place of convenience and adaptability.

Through Sessions Health EHR, telehealth sessions are both secure and effective, providing the flexibility to fit your schedule while removing the barrier of travel.

At Ominira Therapy, we accept select insurance plans, including Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HMO and PPO), and TRICARE, and also offer private pay options.

Trauma-focused work often involves exploring experiences, identities, and patterns that do not always fit neatly into diagnostic categories or standardized treatment limits. For this reason, some services may be offered outside of insurance when clinically appropriate, allowing greater flexibility in pacing, focus, and scope of care.

Using insurance can support access to therapy, while private pay options offer additional privacy and autonomy when desired. When insurance is used, required information is shared with the payer in accordance with policy guidelines. When private pay is chosen, no information is shared with third-party institutions.

Our goal is to ensure that care remains clinically appropriate, transparent, and aligned with your needs, whether services are accessed through insurance or private pay.

Sessions at Ominira Therapy are fully confidential, adhering to the strict requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), Nevada Administrative Code (NAC), and federal laws governing mental health privacy. Confidentiality is maintained through the use of secure platforms such as Sessions Health EHR for telehealth services. Both platforms are HIPAA-compliant, with encrypted communications and records supported by Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) to meet federal privacy and security standards.

While confidentiality is foundational, certain legal exceptions require disclosure under specific circumstances:
  • Duty to Warn and Protect: Under Tarasoff v. Regents of the University of California (a federal precedent) and NRS 629.550, reasonable steps must be taken to warn or protect identifiable individuals if there is a credible and imminent threat of harm.
  • Harm to Self or Others: Imminent risk of self-harm or harm to others requires action under NRS 433A.310 and federal guidelines, which may include notifying authorities or medical professionals to ensure safety.
  • Mandatory Reporting of Abuse or Neglect: Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult must be reported under NRS 432B.220 (child abuse), NRS 200.5091 (elder abuse), and federal statutes such as the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA).
  • Court Orders or Legal Subpoenas: Information may be disclosed if required by a court order or subpoena, as outlined in NRS 49.245 and federal laws such as 42 CFR Part 2, which govern confidentiality in substance use treatment records.
  • Public Safety Regulations: Disclosure is authorized under federal guidelines, such as 45 CFR §164.512(j) of the HIPAA Privacy Rule, to prevent or lessen serious and imminent threats to public health or safety.

For further details about confidentiality or the application of these exceptions, these matters can be clarified to ensure full understanding.
